New paradigm offers a multi-track outpatient treatment program that customizes both the type and amount of treatment to a client's individualized needs. The program adheres to the Treatment Practices and Guidelines set forth by the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA) and uses interventions that have been scientifically proven to reduce sexual recidivism (for example, the Risk-Need-Responsivity principles).

The program is responsive to the differing Stages of Change of the clients to help build and maintain motivation for progress. Group sizes are kept low (6-8 people) in order to ensure that each client has time to benefit. Individual treatment is also offered to clients to deal with crisis situations or specific needs better handled in a one-on-one setting. Near the end of treatment the program incorporates a period of time featuring a gradual reduction in treatment intensity in order to help clients maintain their treatment gains on their own.

New Paradigm believes that both the client and the community are kept safest when there is routine collaboration between treatment providers and community supervisors. The therapists providing treatment are available for regular updates (scheduled or unscheduled) or crisis consultations.

Comprehensive risk assessment tools are used to guide the intensity of treatments and treatment targets throughout all phases. These tools also provide objective evidence of treatment progress and help to inform in an empirical manner the best time to safely terminate treatment for the client and the community.

  • Populations served include:
    • Males & Females
    • Adults & Adolescents
    • Mentally Ill Clients
    • Probationers
    • Parolees
    • Self-Referred
    • Developmentally Disabled

The treatment program also makes use of the Penile Plethysmograph test (PPG) in order to help identify important areas of deviant sexual interest. The PPG is often considered the "gold standard" in the assessment of sexual deviance and New Paradigm is one of only a few treatment centers across New York State that incorporates this valuable tool into a client's treatment.
